NZSM Jazz Festival/Improvisation Competition

The Competition / Award

In 2011, The New Zealand School of Music established a new annual jazz festival. This competition and festival gives schools through out New Zealand the opportunity to meet and play with each other and get feedback from the international artists who visit both to play at the events main gala concert and help schools improve though clinics and competition.

As part of this Festival there is a Individual Improvisation Competition. This is open to any individual attending the Festival. Entries are received digitally ahead of time and then 6 Finalists are choosen to compete live on the opening night of the Festival. P.Mauriat Sponsor this significant prize that represents a free saxophone or $1500 contribution to the winners further jazz education.
